The Mount Ogden & Bountiful Hills Eye Centers offer the latest technology in LASIK. Our committed staff will help you decide which procedure is best for your eyes, your prescription and your lifestyle.

LASIK (Laser-Assisted-In-Situ Keratomileusis) is an FDA-approved outpatient procedure that uses the excimer laser to reshape the cornea to correct your vision. LASIK typically takes about 10 minutes to perform on each eye and is one of the most frequently performed healthcare procedures in North America.

The best way for you to determine if you are a candidate for LASIK is with a personal, one-on-one consultation with an experienced LASIK Consultant. LASIK can treat people who are at least 18 years old, are not pregnant or nursing, in good general health, have a stable prescription, and do not have eye diseases.

Immediately prior to your procedure, your eyelids and lashes will be cleaned. A mild sedative may be given. Anesthetic drops are applied to the eye, to completely numb the eye for comfort, and a lid holder is used to keep your eyelids open.

1. 2. 3.

1. A protective flap is created and gently lifted by the surgeon. Because the corneal flap
preserves the surface layer of the cornea, discomfort following LASIK procedures is
minimized.
2. Your surgeon uses information from your extensive testing to set a surgical plan that
is programmed into the laser. The computer calculates the required treatment and
directs the laser. Computer-controlled pulses of cool laser light are applied to the inner
layers of your cornea. The inner corneal layer is reshaped with the laser to mimic your
contact lens or glasses prescription.
3. The surgeon gently replaces the flap and aligns it to its original position. It heals
naturally and securely.

Bladeless LASIK

In Bladeless LASIK, a silent computer-guided laser is used to create a customized corneal flap. Surgeons can treat a wider variety of patients, including patients with thin corneas.

Custom LASIK

Your cornea is like your fingerprint; no two are alike. With Custom LASIK, a customized map is created for each eye. This data allows for treatment of tiny imperfections in the eye that can have a significant impact on your quality of vision. Custom LASIK improves night vision and less incidences of glare and halos. It is suitable for those requiring higher levels of precision and treatment accuracy than Conventional LASIK can provide.

Conventional LASIK

This is the original LASIK procedure. Conventional LASIK, your prescription is manually entered into the laser and the surgeon will use a blade to create the corneal flap.

Monovision

The need for reading glasses as you get older is called Presbyopia. When you have LASIK, you and your doctor may decide to leave one eye slightly nearsighted; this is monovision. Generally, monovision is elected by people who have already elected monovision correction with their contacts.

PRK

Like LASIK, PRK utilizes the excimer laser to shape the curvature of the eye and treats nearsightedness, farsightedness, and astigmatism. PRK differs from LASIK as it is performed on the surface of the eye and no flap is created during the procedure. PRK is suitable for people with larger pupils, thin corneas, dry eyes, and those who have other corneal issues.

Certain people may not be a candidate for LASIK for a variety of medical reasons. For those still hoping for corrected vision, we offer an Implantable Contact Lens (ICL) procedure. ICL's are a type of intraocular lens that are implanted behind the iris and in front of the natural lens to help those who suffer from nearsightedness or farsightedness. This is a reliable and safe procedure, and a great option for those who are not good candidates for LASIK.

Before proceeding with LASIK, it is important that your expectations are realistic. The most common expectation is to become completely free of glasses and contact lenses. It is best for you to think of laser vision correction as a procedure that reduces your dependence on glasses or contacts. While no one can promise patients “perfect” or 20/20 vision, most laser patients with mild to moderate prescriptions do achieve 20/20 vision or are within one to two lines of 20/20 vision on an eye chart.

While most patients achieve fully corrected vision with one procedure, some patients will require an enhancement to complete their correction. Typically, these patients have a higher initial prescription and may require an enhancement procedure to complete their correction. Enhancement procedures usually are performed once the patient’s vision has stabilized.

We stand behind your vision results for life because we have confidence in our surgeons and in your long-term results. We want to help you maintain the best possible vision throughout your life. If an enhancement is needed to maintain vision results, qualified patients will receive a same-technology procedure at no cost.*

Follow-up care is just as important to your results as your actual procedure. Periodic exams are required to monitor how well you are healing, protect against infection, and measure your visual progress. We strongly recommend that everyone, regardless of LASIK, has a routine eye exam performed by an eye doctor once a year.

We have spent years establishing relationships with Optometrists in the area. We work closely with them in maintaining your care and providing the most convenient service possible. You optometrists will help to:

- Educate you about laser vision correction and other vision correction alternatives.
- Perform your pre-procedure testing and evaluation.
- Provide the surgeon with your eye history, test results, and target prescription.
- Provide your post-procedure follow-up care
- Communicate regularly with our office on your progress.

Maintain your membership in the Lifetime Commitment program by monitoring the health
of your eyes at your annual eye exam.
